Meet Richie

Learn by doing, making the best better.

Richard “Richie” Marcus Knight, Jr., was born in Atlanta on May 18, 1989, to parents Richard of Atlanta and Maria of Havana, Cuba. Richard and Maria, who are small business owners, taught Richie the value of innovation, entrepreneurship, and hard work. He grew up in Oxford, Ga., just 30 miles west of Athens and is a proud product of Newton County public schools.

Even as a kid, Richie showed that same kinetic optimism and flair for community involvement he’s known for today. While in the fifth grade, he became a member of Georgia 4-H, an organization that developed his character as a citizen and leader throughout school and into adulthood. Ultimately, 4-H is what drew Richie to Athens in 2009 to work as a State 4-H Program Specialist at the University of Georgia.

Life as an entrepreneur.

In August 2010, Richie and fellow 4-H’er Nicole Batten partnered together to found HW Creative Marketing, a small marketing firm in downtown Athens that has now assisted hundreds of clients across the nation in growing their businesses. The company has also tirelessly devoted resources to pro bono projects on behalf of local nonprofits.

Nearly seven years later, HW continues to grow and contribute to the Athens community, providing employment for both full- and part-time staff and mentoring a select group of student interns each semester. Recently, HW celebrated the opening of two new offices: one at an additional location in downtown Athens and another in downtown Americus, Ga.

A true love and passion for Athens.

Owning and operating a marketing agency has given Richie the opportunity to build a network of strong and meaningful relationships across all segments of the Athens community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, the Athens Downtown Development Authority, and the United Way of Northeast Georgia. Richie also teaches an Inbound Marketing certificate program through UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Richie is an active member of the Rotary Club of Athens, as well as the 1919 Society of Piedmont Athens Regional. However, when asked about the leadership role that is most special to him, Richie’s involvement with Extra Special People tops the list. Richie has a true passion for ensuring that everyone—regardless of disability, race, religion, or sexual orientation—has the opportunity to freely pursue happiness in life.

Richie is the leader who can move Athens forward.

Richie has built a company on the foundation of helping others move their businesses forward through envisioning and implementing effective growth strategies. In the process, Richie has found a home in the Athens community. He is beyond grateful for the opportunities that Athens has provided for him. It is this gratefulness that compels Richie to give back to Athens through service. That is why he has launched this campaign to be elected as the next mayor of Athens-Clarke County.

Through an organized, creative, and calculated effort, Richie wants to eliminate cyclical poverty, improve the quality of public education and transportation systems, and create an environment where small businesses can thrive in Athens-Clarke County.

Richie has the experience, the dedication, and the heart that it will take to lead Athens-Clarke County into the future.

Let’s elect Richie Knight. Let’s Move Athens Forward.
